The Benefits of Anti-Rust Nutrients

The oxidation that takes place in our body is another way of describing the "rusting" that takes place in our body. This is due to our toxic environment, waste build-up, and the foods we regularly eat.The body needs specific nutrients to address the damage done by this rusting.

What is meant by the term 'rusting' as it relates to our bodies?

Our bodies are affected by an oxidation process that can cause painful joints and stiffness. It's as if we have rusted inside and this is why our joints make creaky noises and it is often difficult and painful to move.

How and why does this oxidation take place?

The natural aging process is one reason that causes this "rust"' to take place in our body. But we are becoming affected earlier and earlier because our day to day living contributes to this rusting process; we regularly eat and inhale carcinogens, and waste builds up from uric acid because of a diet high in protein.

How can this be prevented?

Quite simply by adding the best antioxidants to the diet. According to Dr. Maoshing Ni in his book filled with secrets of longevity, antioxidants are the "antirust" foods that should be added to the diet. Of all the antirust foods available, those with glutathione are the best. Dr. Ni describes glutathione as the "master antioxidant."

Why are these antioxidants important?

Antioxidants are the nutrients that neutralize and remove the free radicals causing this rusting, or oxidative damage.

Which foods contain glutathione?

Glutathione is a naturally occurring compound found in asparagus, walnuts, fish and avocado. (See links below for information about the many benefits of asparagus and avocado). When I lived in S. Korea, every supermarket was filled with large bags of walnuts. Now I know why.

What is glutathione?

Glutathione is made up of three important amino acids: glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine.

Why is glutathione beneficial?

Glutathione helps regulate the immune cells of the body. Additionally, it protects against cancer, aids in DNA repair, helps detoxify the body, and is beneficial in inhibiting the activation of dormant HIV.

What happens if we have a deficiency of glutathione?

A deficiency can cause premature aging as well as low sperm count, diabetes, liver disease and heart disease.

As always, garden fresh or organic is best.

Hello, hello, 23 months ago

Thank you for doing all these researches and shaing it.

BkCreative 23 months ago

You're very welcome Hello, hello. And living in S. Korea I have learned to pick up walnuts and keep them on hand. I even shell them sometimes because it makes me feel like I am doing more, like foraging a bit for my food.

Thanks for commenting!

TheListLady 23 months ago

I'm happy to say I also have walnuts on hand and noticed them piled up when I go in to the Korean supermarkets. Hmmm. I'm going to have some right now.

What an interesting hub! I'm enjoying following you as I am learning so much and sharing so much.

Thank you. Rated up and more!

Nellieanna 23 months ago

I enjoy walnuts, pecans & almonds, - they're all healthy nuts. And I love avocados! I also like asparagus, though I wasn't aware it had so many values! Where I am it's only tender and good locally in early spring.

I'm very much in favor of eating healthy foods and I'm happy to say I really like them best too!

Thanks for a good article about these that are especially beneficial for detoxifying!

theherbivorehippi 23 months ago

I knew there was a reason why I eat an avocado everyday! lol I've never heard of anti-rust nutrients but it makes sense that your joints would be affected. Great information here!! Rated up for sure! Thanks!

BkCreative 23 months ago

Thank you thelistlady - I am a big fan of walnuts and keep them on hand. And I've noticed that too about the Korean markets - filled with walnuts.

You're welcome Nellieanna. I'm glad you found the article interesting. Isn't it great to know that all the healthy foods we need are already there in nature - we just have to return to them. And detoxifying - yes, the asparagus is a known detoxifier! And both asparagus and avocado are aphrodisiacs - oh Yay!

So great theherbivorhippi - to eat an avocado everyday. I bet you have nice skin and hair - it does make a different. Right now I am growing my avocado pit - has been years since I did that. Yay for avocados!

Thanks for the comments!

Thank you BK ,for a very awesome hub, thank you for this valuable information. God bless you. creativeone59

Micky Dee 23 months ago

Very good advice and help! I'd better get a source for the glutathione. Thank you BK.

akirchner 23 months ago

Fascinating and very informative. I eat a lot of asparagus so that is good for me then! I love avocados but I can only eat a bit of them. Does anti-rust mean if I eat more, my bones and joints will quit aching, etc? I need something and am going to start researching that soon....thanks for the great article!

KoffeeKlatch Gals 23 months ago

Very informative, you learn something new every day. It's a good thing I love avocados and walnuts.

BkCreative 23 months ago

You're very welcome creativeone59. I'm so glad you found the information valuable!

Mickey Dee you may like to just pop a few walnuts. I was told by a friend that her mother who was born in Korea will pop a few walnuts in her mouth everyday - just like we would pop a few vitamins.

You know akirchner, I don't often have asparagus and rarely do I have avocado - just when I'm in the mood - but walnuts I keep on hand - especially since my experience in Korea - but I didn't know then about the glutatione benefits - I just figured I'd do what the super healthy people of Korea were doing. Maybe a few walnuts would help. And sad to say - a recent report showed that American fruits and vegetables have far less nutrients than in the past because of farming methods.

I read also KoffeeKlath Gals that coffee is beneficial - but here again the ground stuff we buy in a can or jar in the supermarket is considered inferior. I suppose I recommend the walnuts most because they are nuts and meant to be eaten year round.

Thanks for the comments!

Jen's Solitude 23 months ago

Thanks BK for another informative article. Walnuts taste better than asparagus to me, so guess I shall also try to remember to eat them more often. :)

habee 23 months ago

I've read a little about this, but you explained it so well! I feel pretty "rusty" most days, so I try to eat lots of asparagus and other antioxidants.

Rated up!

BkCreative 23 months ago

Thanks so much Jen's solitude. I am a big fan of walnuts over asparagus too. And I just crack open one or two each day (when I remember) - and I instantly feel...happy. Maybe they are aphrodisiacs like the avocado and asparagus. Hammm.

The other day habee, my left knee felt a little 'rusty' - but I cracked open a couple walnuts and I seem to be fine today. Hmmm. I suspect there is something to all this healthy living stuff. Big big thanks for the rating.

Thanks so much for the comments!

Darlene Sabella 23 months ago

Asparagus in a wok with cheese and but, salt and Wala, a great dish, thank you for this hub avocados are one of my faves also. Great hub, thumbs up and keep writing....

Veronica Allen 23 months ago

I have already begun to experience "rusting" of my knees so I am going to include more of these anti-rusting foods in my diet. You always provide us with the most unique and beneficial information BkCreative.

Peggy W 23 months ago

I like all of these foods...just need to eat them more often I guess for the health benefits. Thanks for this informative hub.

lmmartin 23 months ago

Rusty -- that's my problem! Explains it all. I will take steps to ensure internal lubrication and fight the rust. Thanks. Lynda

BkCreative 23 months ago

Now Darlena Sabella, I have to run out tomorrow and get some asparagus - done in a wok and with some sea salt and what not - this is so good. I'm so impressionable when it comes to food. Thanks for the reminder and thanks for a thumbs up!

It seems to be (sigh!) so common Veronica Allen - this 'rusting' of the knees. A few days ago I woke up with my left knee really aching. I know I can't live like this. I figured I'd walk it off. But I just happened to crack open a couple walnuts because they were there on the table with a nutcracker and I was watching bad TV - and well, the pain is gone - so maybe it worked right away. And last week I ate an avocado over about 3 days (even decided to grow the pit which I haven't done in ages). My knee is fine!

Great Peggy W - this can serve as a reminder to eat more of these foods. Even if we have to do the avocado in a guacamole. And it's summer so asparagus is still around. Yes - a little each day. And we'll all be fine!

For sure lmmartin - it seems more than ever we are being affected by this 'rusting' thing. Well, I don't need it. I just celebrated my 61st b'day on the 27th and I don't want to have my golden years - then platinum years plagued by 'rust' - so by dang it - I shall eat what I need to.

Thanks for all the brilliant comments!

Pamela99 23 months ago

BK, Thanks for explaining Glutathione in such a simple way and it is so easy to get the right nutrients to correct the situation.

BkCreative 23 months ago

Thanks Pamela99. I have this great book by Dr. Ni who talks totally about healthy eating and living as we reach age...well age 100. Sure why not!

Peggy W 23 months ago

I remember the days when growing up in Wisconsin, we had all the wild asparagus that we could pick each Spring. Loved it EXCEPT for the poison ivy that one of my brothers and I usually caught. Didn't stop us from picking bags and bags of it!

BkCreative 23 months ago

Peggy W, I wonder if all this wild asparagus is still growing out there. Isn't it lovely to know that nature provided so much - it was all there. I remember going to my grandmother's farm in NC and my mother would go out early mornings and pick wild blueberries - I can still taste them. They just grew. Sigh!

Thanks for coming back again!

lelanew55 23 months ago

Great hub on anti aging nutrition. I like the way it is written to the point, well organized and very clear. Thank you for your work.

HealthyHanna 23 months ago

I've never heard it called "rusting" before. It is a good term for what goes on in the body. Thanks for the info.

BkCreative 23 months ago

You're very welcome lelanew55. Thanks for your kind comment. I'm so happy to find so much information about the value of food - it is the best healer.

This is new to me too HealthyHanna - and I love Dr. Maoshing Ni - who writes books on healthy living through foods and lifestyle. He's super and the word seems to be apt for joints that get stiff and creaky.

Thanks for the comments!

fastfreta 23 months ago

Okay, I do love walnuts, and I like asparagus, but avocados I just can't make myself like them. However after reading this hub, I'm going to make a stab at eating them at least once in awhile. This is a very good hub as usual, especially because I can identify with the rusty joints, to a degree.

BkCreative 23 months ago

I remember fastfreta that avocados were growing on trees near where you lived - how lucky!

Seems they are an acquired taste. I think I eat them just because I know they are so healthy (and now I'm letting the pit grow). Sounds like you will do well with the walnuts and asparagus.

And alas! - rusty joints are very common! Sigh! But I'm sure I'm feeling a difference after eating the avocado last week and noshing on a walnut here and there.

So glad you wrote!

dawnM 23 months ago

wow interesting hub, I will make sure not to rust inside. Great information!

BkCreative 23 months ago

Thanks so much for the comment dawnM! I'm glad you found it interesting. Seems it is happening too often - those achy creaky joints!

I try and eat as many antioxidants as I can - nuts and berries everyday - I do feel myself getting rusty :(

BkCreative 22 months ago

I live for the day, billyaustindillon, when we will be healthy once again. Glad to hear you are eating the right things - I'm doing it too and I am sure it makes a difference. (had some blueberries in my salad for lunch)

pmccray 22 months ago

BkCreative - I've been unable to find any avocados that are reasonably priced or editable. But after reading this hub I will buy some tomorrow and let them ripen at home. I eat walnuts daily as a snack replacing sweets. Bookmarking and sharing this valuable info . . . got to keep the old chassis from rusting. Peace to you my friend!

BkCreative 22 months ago

Hello pmccray! Seems lately the local avocados have gone up a bit in price here in NYC too. You inspired me to take another look and then if I find them I let them ripen quickly in a brown paper bag.

And it's a good idea to eat walnuts - because I have this craving for sweets so I will try the walnuts - thanks for the tip.

Good to hear from you!

TheListLady 22 months ago

What an interesting concept and it makes sense. My knees are getting a bit rusty. I will heed your advice. Thanks so much and rated up! Yay!

BkCreative 22 months ago

You're very welcome thelistlady. I think we are all beginning to feel a bit of rusting. Good thing we can do something about it. Yay! And thanks for the up rating.

Hi thanks for nice hub and now i know why my family doctor has prescribed anti oxidents to both my dad and mom.

mulberry1 20 months ago

Sounds like good advice. I love avocados but I had better eat plenty of those with walnuts and fish, because I really don't like asparagus.

BkCreative 20 months ago

My knees did feel a bit squeaky mulberry1. I think the food is making a difference. Sounds like you are all set with the avocado, walnuts and fish! Enjoy!

PaperNotes 20 months ago

If I am not mistaken, Glutathione is referred to as the master antioxidant. What i like about it in addition to the nutrients is its skin whitening property.

BkCreative 20 months ago

For sure PaperNotes - I keep reading that it is the master antioxidant. The best thing for helping us age ever so gracefully.

Thanks for writing!
