Relax in an Essential Oil Bath: A List of 6
6 Essential Oil Baths
Feel like running amok? Enjoying a warm soak in an essential oil bath can help you relax.
Try adding a few drops of neroli essential oil to your bathwater. Neroli oil, extracted from the fragrant flower of the orange tree (Citrus aurantium), has properties that are sedative, antispasmodic and even a bit hypnotic. It is also a natural tranquilizer for those who can't sleep at night.
Listed below are several essential oils to use in the bath and their properties. But first:
What is an essential oil?
An essential oil is a natural substance that is extracted from flowers, herbs, spices, shrubs, grasses, trees and resin. Usually a steam distillation process is used. Essential oils are used to help rejuvenate and energize the body. They are also used to help you relax, heal, soothe and relieve pain in a way that is physical, emotional and psychological. This is also known as aromatherapy.
Note: Essential oils should never be applied directly to the skin - it should be diluted first, such as with a carrier oil used in #2. See more usage tips below.

Usage Tips:
- To keep a film from forming on the surface of the bath water, add a capful of castile soap. I use Dr. Bronners unscented castile soap
- Generally, a soothing bath takes 5 to 10 drops. Then soak for about 20 minutes to enjoy the benefits
- Store in amber glass, never plastic, away from direct sunlight and in a cool place
- Shelf life is about two years, however, citrus and pine oils loose potency after about 6 months
- Some essential oils may solidify; place in a bowl of hot water to liquefy
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use around your eyes
