Fat Burning Benefits of Eating Avocado
You can boost your fat burning metabolism by eating foods that contain L-carnitine. Avocado is a rich source of L-carnitine. As an added bonus, it is also an aphrodisiac.
L-carnitine is an amino acid found in your body in the liver. It helps to facilitate fat metabolism, and promotes fat loss. Additionally, it is known to increase energy production in muscle cells and increases blood circulation in the brain.
L-carnitine also helps to reduce triglycerides and increases good cholesterol, which helps to protect the heart. By preventing fat oxidation in the brain, it shows some promise in preventing Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
Isn't L-carnitine sold as a supplement?
Yes, in fact L-carnitine is sold as a weight loss supplement. However, locally grown organic foods are always recommended before supplements. The advantages of eating whole foods is because whole foods offer a variety of health benefits.
What about the high fat content in avocados?
Although avocados are one of the few fruits high in fat, most of the fat is heart-healthy monounsaturated fat; it lowers cholesterol, a hormone that stores abdominal fat, which means it may even shrink belly fat. They are also the fruit richest in beta carotene, vitamin E, and protein.
How does the potassium in avocados reduce belly fat?
In addition to boosting metabolism, avocados are known for reducing anxiety because it is loaded with relaxing magnesium and potassium. Potassium is known for helping to reduce belly fat and it prevents fluid retention. (See link below for foods that help to reduce belly fat).
It also has pantothenic acid, which is a B vitamin, can rev up stress-reducing hormones and can lower your risk of depression. Stress is one of the causes of belly fat.
Other than slicing and eating, how else can it be easily included in the diet?
Avocado is now being suggested as an alternative to mayonnaise - on a sandwich for example. It has 4 grams of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat which lowers cholesterol, 2 grams of fiber and 1 gram of protein per ounce making it a more filling substitue for the mayo.
Locally grown foods are recommended. Where are avocados grown?
These fruits have been cultivated for over 7,000 years; three of the original types were West Indian, Mexican, and Guatemalan. They are now grown in in the USA in California and Florida, (and also in Africa and Australia). Many people grow them in their backyards.
We have been eating avocado as an aprhrodisiac and didn't know it? Explain!
It is said that the Aztecs made a sexually potent spread from mashed avocados, chiles, onions, and tomatoes and it was called 'ahuaca-mulli.' We know this same spread as guacamole. (Say 'ahuaca-mulli' fast and it sounds like guacamole - less emphasis on the 'a')
How do you select and store avocados?
Avocados will not ripen until after they are picked; avocado tree leaves produce a hormone that inhibits the fruit-ripening chemical ethylene. To tell if it is ripe, squeeze it gently to see if it gives. If you buy it ripe it can be stored in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. If it is not ripe you can speed up the ripening process by placing it in a paper bag. I always have success with this ripening method. It may take a few days.

Great hub! Who knew avocado's were aphrodisiacs! They're also good for heartburn. I used to eat them when I was suffering from heartburn during my pregnancy. Thanks such an informative hub. I can't wait to see what you find on Turkish Apricots!
I live in So. Cal, where you can walk down any street and just pick Avocados off the street, (good ones too), however I just can't seem to develop a desire for them. I've tried over and over again. But now that I know about the L-carnitine I will just have to take supplements. Thanks BK. Good hub.
Very informative hub. Thanks for sharing it with us. Will definately try it though Im not fat :-)
BK Creative,
I always look forward to your creative hubs they are always full of great ideas and healthy tips. Thanks for the good information on avocados. I will enjoy them that much more.
Blessings
Great information. I love guacamole but can't deal with the pasty aftertaste of fresh avocado. I have a tummy tire and will try your sea salt. Thanks!
WOW!!!! I did not know this!!! Avocado's fat burner, YES!! And the good part about this is, I like Avocados!! Yea!!! GREAT HUB!!!!
Thanks again for your tips. I can do with some fat burning.
I knew there was a reason why I LOVE avocados!
Wow Bk another use for such a great food. I might have to try it as a conditioner and see how it works.
Just started a new diet last week, focusing on fruits, veggies, legumes, and whole grains. Avocado (up to 1/2 a day) is included. Hooray!
This hub is a great reference for me, thanks!
One diet trick I will have no problems with! I love avocados and it seems they are so good for me the little fat they contain is nothing.
Wow!!! Thanks for the great info!!! I love avocados.. just to find them in season.. or at a reasonable price.. but love all the info... thanks again...
Interesting. This is a cool article and good information here.
Its a n informative post for me. I have to loose my fat. Can you tell me where i can find avocado ?
Ooooh I love 'em so that makes it so easy to go on a diet with them :)
When we were kids, we used to be given avocado milkshakes - I've tried growing a couple in our garden but no fruits yet - I live in hope!
Thanks for a wonderfully informative hub BkCreative.
Avocado very good but bad taste for me.
Very nice. Avocado is so good for us! My Jamaican brother-in-law calls them "pears" and he eats them as often as he can find them. Thanks for the article.
So many people run a mile from advocado's because of their high fat content, which is a shame because as you have pointed out so well, they are so beneficial. I love advocado, especially blended with banana and mango for breakfast - YUM!
I enjoyed this hub, BK. I like avocados. I can tell a friend that likes them that they are good for his heart; he'll like that.

What an interesting and informative Hub !! Being a California guy I was raised on avocado...My Mom would pack it into our tuna fish sandwiches for school...my Dad would slice it for his BBQ burgers, and my wife uses it, like you have suggested, as a condiment for just about everything, from potatoes to chili...no wonder her skin is like wet glass, and at 71, I'm not showing much belly fat...Thanks again for this well written and entertaing Hub...Larry
BkCreative, I think your a nutritionist. Can you tell me the benefits of guava. It's one of the tropical fruits here in the Philippines. Avocado can also an alternative food to babies who are already eight months and above, because of its non-saturated fats. My mom didn't secreted too much milk when I was a baby, so, the most available supplement was the legendary avocado.
Great hub! I love avocado on and in almost everything. I eat them whenever I can.
I love avacado! Great on sandwiches. I love the idea of replacing mayo with mashed, spread avacado. Yummy, can't wait to try it. Thanks for the tip!
this is good news as I love avocados: early in the morning with freshly made toast, with freshly baked bread; for lunch filled up with prawns or in a salad... delicious!
I was wondering how to do it as a shake as one hubber mentioned. I can certainly taste it now blended with banana and mango - what a healthy drink to keep you satisfied for hours. http://www.enjoyhealthybody.com
Hi, BkCreative. I really enjoyed your Hub that sings the praises of avocados. You make it extremely clear that this is a very healthy food to include in our diet. You clarify how an avocado increases good cholesterol, reduces anxiety due to its magnesium and potassium, and especially, burns fat because of how its L-carnitine (an amino acid in the liver) affects our metabolism. As a side note, I never thought of using avocado as a substitute for mayonnaise. I'll have to try that sometime!
I love avocadoes and know it can be used to control weight but as an aphrodisiac--that's interesting. Interesting article and lots to learn.
Thanks for sharing.
nice hub! i love avocados
thank you for brightening up my life and letting me know how good the avocado is for me.... It is one of my favorite things to eat, and now I can eat them with a big grin on my face :)
I love avocados. It's too bad so much of the general public believes that because they are 90% fat they are not good for us. Nothing could be further from the truth. Thanks for spreading this info. http://www.eatingforenergy.ca
I can't remember if I commented on this Hub before but I know I remember reading it. Anyway....lol..I thought of it while I was buying Avocados in the store today! I used to feel like they were not really that good for me but I love them but now I know the benefits and I swear I buy them all the time! A few weeks ago I bought them and they were on top of my microwave...on top of my counter and although my dogs never take things off the counter.....I came home later to find avocado skins and pits scattered throughout the house. Apparently they like them just as much. Great hub!
It's nice getting positive info on one of my most favorite vegetables. Well done.
Very informative! Great Hub about about a great fruit!
Good hub, I will give this a go - not fat either but anything that is good for the heart should be taken on board. thank you.
Thanks for the valuable information! I did not know that the avocado was rich in L-carnitine, I knew of apples, pears and tomatoes .... but if the avocado is also aphrodisiac (and is it also good ).... is a great idea!
Avocados are delightful to taste. You can mix it with other fruits like mango or bananas then pour in evaporated milk, add a small amount of vanilla and sugar to taste. Chill it to make it tastier :D
Good hub! :)
You know, I eat an avocado everyday and now I can feel good about it!! lol This is awesome!
I love the avocado in dip, salads and on top of sandwiches. A lot of restraunts are serving more dishes with avocado I noticed. Good to know it reduces belly fat.
Great hub - found you through organic search, you were top!
Voted up and useful. Happy to be your 943rd follower.
AJ..
Another benefit of monounsaturated fat is that it causes you to feel full and satiated whereas a lot of the processed foods that contain saturated fat and other things actually causes you to feel hungry for more. So avocados are a great thing to have that help you feel full without eating a ton of them.
Great hub
good to know, BKCreative. Thanks!!
Is it ok to use in gaucomole dip?? Its still has it in there so it should be ok. I still eat avocados (with salt) and really enjoy them. Interesting fact with the mental health and alzheimers! Interesting read!
I love avocado, but I also know that it contains a lot of fat. This hub gave me the information I need to indulge a bit more. Thanks!
Thanks for your great information , you can get the complete list of fat burning foods from here.
I love love love avocado, I didn't know it had so many health advantages, I use to eat it daily when I lived in Jersey, didn't know it was aprhrodisiac! And I didn't know it helped you lose weight, very informative BK! Voted up!
don't feed avocado to your dogs or cats it can be poison for them but it's good for people
I love avacados and eat half of one every day, but I haven't noticed and aphrodisiac effects :P
I do agree though about eating these fruits as they have so much excellent nutritional value and even help you absorb more vitamins when eaten with other vegetables in a salad for example.
Good luck ,Great post,y love youThanks for the info it had cleared out too many things in my mind. Your recommendations are really good.
Wow, wow, wow!!! I had no idea that avocado did all this! It's funny because I've had almost no experience with avocado until recently, at a visit to my sister's house.
She had made an avocado dip and I couldn't get enough of it! It truly felt like my body was just lapping it up. I felt a bit guilty for eating too much of it, but it's so good to know that it helps burn belly fat. I am right now trying to lose weight, so this a great one to add to my list of awesome foods. Now, I just have to get my sister's recipe for that dip!
I am going to share this! Thanks!

It so funny you would write about avocados. I was just enjoying some Turkish Apricots. I like avocado dip and it is suppose to be good for the complexion as facial.
