The New Beer - Made With Tea
By BkCreative
Beer Brewed With Tea
It had to happen of course. Beer has nutritional value and so does tea. We've long had beer brewed with coffee, so why not with tea. There are several such beers with tea on the market now (see list below).
But first - what are the benefits of beer and tea?
Beer - Beer has a good amount of a mineral known as silicon. Silicon helps build strong bones. The beer with the highest content are the pale ales - the beer richest in hops. The wheat beers have the least amount of silicon.
Tea - Thousands of years ago wild tea plants originated in China. Of all the teas on the market, it is green tea which has earned the distinction of being described as 'the science backed miracle cure' due to its high concentration of antioxidants and minerals.
(There are many types of green tea - for more information see the links below).
Note: The term IPA - used in some descriptions, stands for India Pale Ale - it's described as a type of ale with a light to copper amber color, with medium to medium high alcohol by volume - and with a taste of hops, malt and it may sometimes be bitter. Different countries have different IPAs, however, it was first brewed in England in the 18th century.
Beer Descriptions:
1 - Green Tea Ale - This light pale ale has green tea and is described as sweet with a taste of pear, toasted and grassy. Some say the taste of ginger is a bit stronger than the taste of green tea. This beer is brewed in Toronto, Canada.
2 - Ineeka Organic Green Tea Bier - (the bottle spells 'beer' as 'bier') Another green tea beer with a taste of ginger. It is described as tasting more like herbs than hops. Good for someone who may like a milder beer. Based in Chicago, this company claims to have the first certified organic green tea beer.
3 - BluCreek Zen IPA - Made in Wisconsin, this India Pale Ale is similar to a traditional pale ale. Combined with natural green tea, it is described as a smooth and subtle handcrafted beer.
Fun Fact: This website lists Wisconsin as the state with the highest proportion of bars and restaurants - more than any city in the United States.
4 - MateVeza Yerba Mate IPA - This India Pale Ale uses yerba mate instead of green tea and is described as fruity. Yerba Mate is a popular South American herbal tea and is a natural source of caffeine (so true, I drank and shared yerba mate when I was working an overnight shift - we all stayed awake). It's brewed in California.

What next, indeed drbj. I like the fact that in my old age I developed a taste for beer for awhile there. Maybe my body was craving the silicon to keep my bones strong. Thanks so much for commenting!
Oh, I'll try this. As a matter of fact when I go to the supermarket tomorrow I will look for one. In fact I think tomorrow I'll drink any beer. You've put the cold, crispy thought in my mind now. Yay!
Rated up. Thanks a lot!
Hope you find it - and enjoy it. I have all kinds of beer at my local markets here in Brooklyn. Actually, I'm kind of surprised. It must be all the colleges nearby!
Thanks for the rating!
Perhaps this is my kind of beer. I guess the alcoholic content is not so high and I can see it has medicinal values too!
I never liked the taste of beer. But beer made from tea...maybe I could get used to it...especially with all the health benefits.
You know....I am not a beer drinker but I mean.....I almost feel obligated to drink if it's healthy! lol I am going to have to try this! Thanks for the super info. Rated up!
So true pager7 - a good handcrafted beer should have medicinal value. It's time to bring back the benefits and not drink beer for the sole purpose of getting drunk.
I have to say LivingFood - beer was something I would never touch - but as friends introduced me to some of the locally brewed and something other than what has always been on the supermarket shelf - I was pleasantly surpised. But still it's something I may just want ever few months.
I love the sense of obligation theherbivorhippi - that is so great. I hope you try it and let us know what you think. And thanks so much for the up rating! Enjoy!
Totally new information for me, I have never heard of it nor seen it. Perhaps it hasn´t reached Sweden yet! But when it does I will try it! I like beer, and now when I drink it I can just say that it is good for my bones! Thanks for a useful hub!
BK, This is news to me but worth a try. Thanks.
Hello thoughtforce - there seems to be little information out there about it. But I have a feeling it will be big pretty soon because we are all becoming health conscious and we already know both products, beer and tea.
Hello Pamela99 - hope you find it and like it and maybe even give us some feedback.
Thanks for the comments!
I like a beer and ice cream float!
I love my tea! it's the beer I am not so keen on. It would be worth a try though if it is good for me :)
Hey cool BkC. I enjoy a nice dark ale every once in a while. I also enjoy a cup of green tea twice a day. I'd like to try one of these sometime. Perhaps you could provide links to more info on the four [tea-beers] you mentioned. I think I could probably find the Green Tea Ale most easily..I'm not that far from Toronto.
I'll have to try this and as BJ said, I wasn't aware that they had this~! I have a feeling beer drinkers everywhere will start to drink more thinking it is better for them. Seriously, great information!
Wow,BK, I didn't know any of this information, I'm impressed, thank you for sharing it. Godspeed. creativeone59
I hadn't thought about it Mickey Dee - but a beer and icecream float would be just what I need right now - thanks for the idea!
You know AnnieMary - I never cared for beer but in the last few years out of so very many - I find I can enjoy one, a really good one, every now and then.
OK timorous, I'll see what I can find out. I'm here in NYC and seems we can find the brands. Although you do have a good company up in Canada. Hope you find it and let us know what you think. Meanwhile, I had a great dark ale today - and it made me so happy. Hmmmm.
Hope you do try it and like it akirchner. I think some of the folks I know who aren't beer drinkers may want to try this. I tell you, the newer beers are so much better than the old beers that have filled the supermarket shelves.
I'm so glad I got a good 'wow' from you creativeone59 - thanks for commenting!
I'll have milk and 2 sugars with mine...Cheers.
I love our local Deuchars IPA, there’s nothing better than a pint of IPA literally feet from the brewery.
I've never cared much for beer, but have always had my one icy annual glug in the summer, on a scorching day, to wash down a barbecued hamburger or hot dog (not to do so seems strangely unpatriotic). Now that I know there's beer brewed with tea, I'm definitely going to give it a try. It sounds like a nutritious snack to me, rather than a vehicle for alcohol! For that, I'll stick to my Scotch. :)
One never knows until one tries. Thank you for the news.
I'm so happy hublim that we can finally have a real beer - a good beer. It makes such a difference.
So far good reviews about all these beers Sally's Trove because they are not too beer-y. I'm so happy with these IPAs because I can drink one and actually enjoy it. And of course traditions - you must drink/glug that beer for patriotic purposes. Hope you try the beer and like it.
You're welcome Hello, hello!
Thanks for writing!
I work for a Japanese company, so Green tea is the norm
here, I do not like it, so shall I say to much of anything is not necessary good for you, so now I am a
black tea no milk or sugar drinker.
Not a beer drinker need something alittle more stronger then that to relax or be socialable ( I am raising kids).
But I will pass this HUB along.
Looove that you need something a bit stronger because you are raising kids! Such honesty. And I am just surprised more of us aren't drinking something a bit stronger - and more often.
Thanks so much for your comment. Yay!
I will be looking for these tea beers. I keep buying my guy these different ones as a surprise. He likes plain beer (I can just hear the guys groaning at my lack of proper "beer" terminology). I notice he loves to taste novel ones as well and I get to try them too! So far I have liked lime beer and I think a green apple one...but I also like the non-alcoholic ones...play beer by guy's standards...lol Great Hub!
Good idea - even as a gift - you know you go to someone's house and you like to bring something. Some novel beers to sample would be fun. Or having them on hand for guests to try. I saw a blueberry beer in the supermarket made by one of these companies. It may be worth a try.
Thanks for commenting!
Good suggestions...something people will enjoy. Now blueberry beer...that has to be Canadian...lol...and I want to find it!
I think I'll try the blueberry tea Scribenet - I saw that in my local supermarket. There must be at least 75 different kinds of beer at the local markets. I need to catch up - thanks for writing!
This is good news. So i can find an excuse to drink beer and claim it has the nutritional value of tea at the same time..Great. Thanks for the update
You're welcome! I'm so glad you found the information so helpful xixi12! Nothing like a good beer a good tea and a good beer tea.
Thanks for commenting!
I never knew that there were all these varieties of beer.Interesting.
Hello dahoglund! I went into my supermarket this a.m. and there were about 100 different kinds of beer - I was overwhelmed and just couldn't go through it all to find what I wanted. But there are so many many kinds now. I do like the pale ales. A good one is quite satisfying. Wow!
Thanks for commenting!
Nice new info. Hopefully this tastes better than beer.
Thank you for commenting BeatsMe! So far I have to say the new beers, the IPAs have a nice taste compared to what has long been on the supermarket shelf - those old standard beers.
This is very interesting. I don't really like beer but I love tea. By putting them together, maybe the tea will make me like the beer a little more. :)
For someone like myself, who has never cared for beer, Om Paramapoonya, I am surprised that these are quite drinkable. A little goes a long way too.
Great to meet you and I enjoy your hubs!
I'm a green tea lover and I'd love to taste that Green tea ale! Thanks for this hub.
Wow! I LOVE this hub. What could be better than adding an even healthier element to your beer. This is simply genius. I must go shopping! Rated up for the fabulous information!
You're welcome PaperNotes. I hope you try it and like it. I can't help but to wonder - what next?
Hope you find it and like it GreenThumbLady. I'm amazed at all the beers out there now. But I am game to try something new. So far the IPA beers have not disappointed. Thanks so much for the up rating!
I love drinking tea. Tea is my favorite and this drink accompany me in the morning and in the evening. But, a new beer made made with tea, this is new for me. Thanks for share. I hope the best for us. Vote up as usual.
Prasetio
I have heard of doctors recommending beer and wine to older people in the last few years. I am sure they probably all were on some type medicine, I guess they don't mean a whole keg, lol. Makes me wish I could have it for bone health I had no idea but I am sure I couldn't. I never liked beer until I had it in tomato juice years ago, I imagine it would be good in tea. I drink a lot of tea, too. Now I am putting the vinegar in my smoothie every day. It's great, since I put apple cider, the cider vinegar is barely noticeably.
Polly
You may like it prasetio30. I must say for someone like myself who has never liked beer, these new beers and pale ales are surprisingly good. I hope you try it and like it. Thanks a million for the up rating!
Oooh Pollyannalana, I didn't know doctors were recommending beer to older people - but with the silicon to build bones found in the ales - it makes sense. I'm glad to hear that. I'm with you about tea - it is my everyday drink of choice.
Thanks for writing!
HI, Umm! lol not sure about this, I like my beer with well beer! I will have to move to Wisconsin I think... but seriously it might well taste nice, I might just give it a go! thanks nell
You're welcome Nell Rose. It may be fun to try it. It's nice to have a small beer tasting. Pull out a bottle and let the guests sample.
I hope you try it and like it!
BKCreative, I wished I could drink beer not only for its healt benefits and nutrition values but for the sake of it too. But beer makes me ....grumpy! I have no idea why. But I will try a beer with tea because my husband wants to have a partner for his beer shelf in the fridge :) You have such interesting articles. I'm glad you put them up.
You know cameciob - beer will wipe me out - I suppose if I stayed awake or drank too much I'd be grumpy too. I hope you try this and like it. I must say as someone who never cared for beer - well the new ones seems to be of such superior quality - they actually make me quite happy - and then I pass out.
I'm so glad you found the hub interesting! And maybe useful too!
Hi BKC
Thanks for your comment on my beer hub. It is quite a coincidence that both our latest hubs are on the same topic - beer! Your hub combines two of my favorite drinks beer and tea but I have quite a few other favorites too!!
Amber:)
Hello Amber Allen - I think we are ready to enjoy some good beer right about now. And tea of course. The only thing left for me to do now is make it.
I enjoyed your hub suggestion - thanks for coming and commenting!
BKCreative, Interesting and I'm sending the link of this to my son. He's a bit of a beer snob. He loves to frequent microbrewery bars. Not sure he's heard of this type of beer. I'm sure he will enjoy reading it.
Fabulous article! I never had a clue there were tea beers. Now I want to taste one, even though I'm not much of a drinker.
I keep a few beers in the fridge, along with some liquors in the cabinet, and a few other "spirits" for guests. So why not offer a tea beer rather than a Bud?
Thanks!
I'm with your son there Angela Harris - the microbreweries are making some fantastic beers - the difference is like buying a can of fruit and a good fresh organic piece. Hope you son is intrigued. This seems to be so new and we probably have to ask for it. I like the microbrews and I have never cared for beer before. I actually feel healthier when I drink one.
It's so new RunAbstract and is slowly making its way to the markets. I do like the idea of just having some on hand for guests so we can do a tea beer sampling. Love the creative hosts!
Thanks for the fun comments!
Crazy, what will they think of next, somehow i dont think it will have the same affect when you ask for a new tea beer at the pub, just dosnt sound right.
good hub
I think I will go to a pub Ben, for the sole purpose of trying this and seeing what happens. Thanks for commenting - and suggesting this fun idea!
Green Tea Ale, i really like the sound of this, i wonder could i make some myself?
Oooh, I hope you do make it simOn30 - and then please write a hub about it. Thanks for commenting!
COOL COOL COOL! I am totally trying that Yerba Mate one tonight!
Thanks for the hub!
Yerba mate is quite good yenajeon - and it works. Thanks for writing and good to hear from you!
BK, take it from a Ouisconsin expert hopsicanado, this tea beer thing sounds like an intriguing possibility. I'll try and report back after some IPA or tea ale. Also, in alignment with the fun fact in your article, most of the houses basements where I grew up had our Dad's mini bars in them. Then there were the many other neighborhood establishments many still in prominent use!
Hey from a Milwaukeean!!!
Ben Zoltak
Ah, yes of course Ben Z. - you are a Milwaukeean! What a great bit of information about the house basements and the mini bars.
I'm really looking forward to hearing from you again. I've never been a beer drinker but a good beer is just sooooo good. I welcome all these handcrafted beers!
Thanks for commenting!
Now this looks like a tasty treat! I may have to try some for Halloween tomorrow.
Great! This does sound like a good Halloween treat. Thanks for commenting!
Me and beer, I guess that makes sense on a weekend! This hub is interesting. I just might try. Thanks!
Hope you try it and like it. I am kind of thrilled about all these craft beers. It's like discovering beer for the first time. Yay!
Thanks for commenting!
I'm not a beer drinker but since I like tea, I may have to try this out.
You may just have a lot of fun trying it. I have never cared for beer - maybe because the regular supermarket stuff is pretty rotten. But these craft beers are quite good. Well now I want one - right now of course.
Thanks for writing!
I can't find find it anywhere but somewhere I heard you and others talking about organic vinegar and was it you who said tou rubbed it right into your legs and the pain stopped? Well anyway I couldn't find that brand but spectrum I think it is called and I woke up one night with a big toe killing me and I didn't know what to do and I remembered that and thought well it was worth a try, what else could I do. So I wet a folded paper towel that would wrap around my toe a couple times and stuck a baggy and loose tape over that to keepit on and in about fifteen minutes I was back to sleep and no pain since and that has been weeks. Maybe a coincidence but I sure will try it again if or when needed!
Ooooh Pollyannalana - I'm glad you shared that information. And that pain I felt never came back after applying the vinegar. I'm so amazed. Seems there are so many easy and inexpensive remedies to what ails us - and with no side effects.
Thanks a million for your input.
Well I failed to mention the paper towel was soaked with the vinegar, lol, so while I am here I will mention I am putting a couple tablespoons of that organic vinegar a day in my green tea and it taste almost like apple cider and easy to drink, I wasn't doing it too often with the water, but honey is in the tea and I can't see it would make that much difference. I don't even remember now why I am doing it so you need to come up with something for my memory!
Sounds like you are just really enjoying yourself Pollyannalana! Hmmmm. I've never tried the organic vinegar in green tea. Maybe tomorrow.
You know actually herbs or something for memory would be a good hub. I'm going to see if I have anything in my files.
Have a stressfree day!
Wow, wide awake drunks! LOL
Clever and maybe that's a good idea Granny's House! But then I find drunks like to talk too much. Hmmmm. And now I want one right now. Thanks for writing!
Beer and tea are always beneficial to health (in moderation), combine them and they good, I agree. I like both beer and tea, Maita
Now I want one - even though it is bitter cold here in NYC. I'm on my way out for soup ingredients - this beer will work.
Thanks for commenting Maita!
Hi Bk, i m not a drinker..but i know for sure that beer does have some health benefits.. btw is this beer non alcoholic like fruit beer.. Long time back i wrote something on beer on trion.. u can take a look
Hello there sweetie1 -this beer is not non alcoholic. I'm going to take look at your link right now. Thanks for passing it on!
Hello there sweetie1 - I checked your article and perhaps I started craving beer as I got older because I needed the nutrients - your article mentions the benefits for the elderly.
A quality beer is worth it! Thanks for writing!
Thanks bk creative
You're welcome Sweetie1!
You know maybe it was here I said I never liked beer but once in tomato juice but you know every now and then I crave a beer and that is so weird, how can you crave what you don't like? Is my body trying to tell me something? My husband use to buy beer in the summer for mowing day but he doesn't drink anything anymore for me to taste to see if it is good to me now. Dad use to get rock and rye, brandies, sherries, etc and let us kids have tastes of it and I think that is a good thing for kids to have to not be so anxious to try it they over do it when they can get old enough to get it.
I sounded like I had had a couple in that one comment up there. lol....I do love your health hubs.
You know Pollyannalana - I never cared for beer but began to crave it when I was menopausal. My body and brain knew it needed some minerals - and the beer was most satisfying. Those days are gone so I don't have the craving - but just want one every now and then.
The silicon is good for our bones. It should be a pale ale for the best benefit.
Always glad when you come by and comment.
I agree with one of your readers I also never liked the taste of beer and I am not so sure if I want to taste a tea beer. by the way how is the taste of this? All I could say is this is weird but I am sure would go over well with the beer drinkers.
It's actually quite tasty but I can't say that I am aware of a strong tea taste. More a pale ale taste which I have come to appreciate as long as it is kind of mild. After drinking the craft beers and pale ales - I find I can no longer drink the common beers out there.
Thanks for the comment. Looking forward to some of your hubs!
I don’t like plain beer but do like beer when it is mixed with something else, such as lemonade. I like green tea and I like yerba mate, so I’m very interested in trying a green tea or yerba mate beer, and the health benefits are a bonus! Thank you for the information.
You're very welcome AliciaC. Hope you find it and like it!
beer from tea i think i should try it lol.... nice hub
Thanks wendy87 - now I want a bottle. Like right now!
Wow beer with tea! That's awesome..
It's fun too - thanks for writing Maruja!
Like this. I can tell friends I drink beer for health reasons. LOL
Love these beers Mimi721wis! Hope you try and like. Thanks for writing!
I love beer and tea, Blue Moon, Sam Adams, shock Tops and I drink black tea daily, great hub.
Thanks for the compliment and good beer and tea thoughts - cherrycrime26! I'm one of your followers by the way!
Interesting, I never developed a taste for beer but I do like my green tea, I may have to look for this.
Thanx
You're welcome chefsref! Hope you like it if you try it. I've never been a beer fan - but these craft beers are a while 'nother treat (every now and then).
I'm not a beer person, but occasionally enjoy a bottle of the more unusual beers at parties, and buy some when I am having a party. But I do love tea so this is the beer for me!
Ah, yes it is the occasional good beer that can be really enjoyable. I'm having a party next week so it is time to look for these fun beers.
Thanks for commenting!
I love tea and do enjoy an occasional beer. An interesting combination, for sure. I may need....lol to try this.
Hope you try it and enjoy it Dee aka Nonna!
Very informative piece and well written too. Excellent.
Thanks so much sweetguide and nice to meet you too!
Interesting. tea is an adjunct I have never tried. I love green tea. I drink it everyday. I love beer. I will give it a try sometimes. Surprised I never saw a Beer Tea when I lived in Japan!
I often feel Budman610 that ingredients should not be mixed because it may ruin their effectiveness. But then of course there always has to be something 'new, new, new' on the market for us wonderful consumers!
Nice to meet you by the way. I'll follow so I can keep up!
drbj 20 months ago
OMG - beer combined with tea. What will they think of next? Thanks for this interesting update, Bk. I wasn't aware of this new product when I wrote my hub, "Tribute to Beer - an Amazing Beverage." Now, thanks to you, I'll have to update it.
